Teaching Practicum Tips

Here's a useful collection of public speaking exercises- teaching students, covering the principal elements often requiring specific and sustained practice.

Although it’s likely you already know some of them, I hope you find at least a couple to take away that are new to you.

The 10 aspects are:

  1. breathing,

  2. vocal warmups for the face, jaw, lips, and throat,

  3. using video to become conscious of any habitual unhelpful gestures we may make as we present,

  4. recording ourselves to hear our voices as others hear us,

  5. eye contact-making it,

  6. sounding real (becoming congruent),

  7. speech rate,

  8. articulation,

  9. body language,

  10. and planning to succeed -with a printable planning checklist.

The exercises are simple, adaptable for all age groups from middle school up and easily put into practice.

I know once they’re made part of regular preparation routines, they make a significant difference: increased poise, confidence, and control. ☺

Have a great week,
Happy teaching, happy speaking,
