Do you know that April is a month of stress awareness? As a young adult, to deal with the underlying issues of unhappiness and anxiety, below are a number of ‘tools’ to keep in your ‘kit bag’ to help you live with anxiety and clinical depression:
- Start to talk to people about how you feel. And they MUST listen.
- Begin to go to weight management classes and find a very supportive group.
- Eat foods to give you energy – eat for comfort even though it maks you feel uncomfortable!
- Engage with counselling and continue to dip in and out when you begin to feel overwhelmed.
- Keep a reflective diary. By doing so you will pick up on the warning signs of when anxiety is creeping up on you.
- Exercise – a gentle cycle or walk is a way for you to find peace within.
- Set realistic expectations of yourself. If you don’t meet them, you have to reset them!
- Take prescribed medication and have a supportive doctor.
- Surround yourself with positive people, those that drain your energy are kept at arm’s length and don’t take up too much of your time.
Take care of yourself:)
