National Workshop- ELT

The College of Education conducted a two-day national workshop on language skills. Miss Bekhal Baiz Kareem, the head of the department of English, and Mrs Mayssa (faculty member) were the keynote speakers. The workshop took place on the university campus and was aimed at teaching learners how to improve their basic language skills such as reading, speaking, writing, and listening through the use of literacy texts.

During the workshop, the participants were exposed to a range of reading materials, including books, articles, and other written materials. They were taught how to effectively read and comprehend these texts and were given tips and strategies on how to improve their overall reading skills. Additionally, the participants had the opportunity to practice their speaking, writing, and listening skills through a variety of activities and exercises.

Freshmen Orientation Day class of 2023

 Freshmen Orientation Day

The College of Education on January 7th, 2023, held an orientation event for its freshmen class of 2023. The event gave freshers the opportunity to get to know each other and faculty members and find out more about the College so they were fully prepared to start their journey in the college for four years time. The event comprised several activities which welcomed freshers and support them to meet their tutors and area managers and know the college and many other things.  The president of Knowledge University Prof. Dr Kayhan Z. Ghafoor gave a welcome speech to the freshmen class of 2023, followed by the speech of Miss Bekhal B K, HOD.  Below is the summary of HOD's speech:

“Hello, class of 2023. Welcome to your school, your campus, and your home for the next four years. It is both an honour and a privilege to stand before you today and welcome you to this remarkable community........ I will conclude by offering you some simple advice on how to make the most of your experience here at Knowledge University. Share your knowledge and skills; don’t keep them to yourself. Challenge yourself and your friends daily. Embrace one another’s passions for children, education, communities, policy, and practice. Absorb everything. And above all, have a bit of fun.”

Hosting a Dutch Speaker

Today, December 12, 2022, Miss Bekhal BK (HOD) invited a Dutch representative, Ms Marnel, to give a talk to our participants in the English language course for cancer patients to motivate them to be strong and not to give up in this difficult time that they are passing through.  Here is the speaker’s speech"

"First of all, I would like to extend my gratitude to ms. Bekhal for inviting me to the university to get acquainted with the English language department. It was lovely to get to know the students in the language class and it was wonderful to hear from them on how they have been dealing with the challenging circumstances that they are going through. I encouraged all of them to try and speak English even if they don't feel confident with their language skills yet. Practise will help enormously to grow in mastering a language. I also extended an invitation to the students to come and practise at the English language cafe that I and some friends organise every Thursday from 6-8pm in House of Hope in Ankawa (location details can be gained through ms. Bekhal). Last, but not least, I offered prayer to the group in the name of Jesus Christ. He was known for His healing miracles while he walked on this earth more than 2000 years ago and has given his followers the command to go and pray for people who are ill. I asked God, on behalf of Jesus, to strengthen the immune systems of the students, to give them wisdom and endurance, and to give a deep hunger for truth in their hearts."

English Language Course- Induction Day

Since last year, Knowledge University—the College of Education—has given free English language classes to community members from various backgrounds.  A group from Nanakali Hospital, which included Mr Krmanj (manager) and some of his staff, as well as many of the hospital's cancer patients, was cordially welcomed by the department's entire faculty members on December 4, 2022, under the supervision of Miss Bekhal B. K. (HOD). They were given a tour of the campus by Miss Bekhal B K and a compelling presentation.  During her presentation, Miss Bekhal B. K. (HOD) made a strong case for the department, college, and department.  She also gave them information on the three-week language course they will take at the college.
